Karen Solis-Murphy is a New York immigration attorney and the founder of Solis & Murphy Law Group, PLLC. She has more than 25 years of legal experience, first as a paralegal and now as an attorney. She focuses her practice on immigration and nationality law and also handles family and matrimonial matters.

Karen understands the immigrant experience firsthand. She came to the United States from Peru as a child and grew up watching her family navigate a new language and culture. After high school, she began working as a paralegal at a New York City law firm, where she spent eleven years preparing immigration and matrimonial cases, interviewing clients, and translating for Spanish-speaking families, all while putting herself through college. Those years inspired her to go to law school and dedicate her career to giving a voice to people who often feel unheard and afraid.

After law school, Karen was selected for the U.S. Attorney General's Honors Program and served as a Judicial Law Clerk at the New York Immigration Court, assisting Immigration Judges with removal proceedings. She then completed the Department of Homeland Security's asylum officer training program and served as an Asylum Officer at the New York Asylum Office. These roles gave her a firsthand understanding of how judges and asylum officers evaluate cases, and that insight shapes how our firm builds every case.

Karen went on to spend four years as a supervising litigation attorney at a New York City immigration firm, where she represented hundreds of clients before the Immigration Court, USCIS, and the Board of Immigration Appeals in cases including asylum, removal defense, family-based petitions, and humanitarian visas. Her clients have come from more than 25 countries across Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, South Asia, and Europe. She has also served as a Supervising Attorney with the NYC Mayor's Office of Asylum Seeker Operations, helping newly arrived asylum seekers navigate the immigration system.
